This is in regards to installing CG Field on a Carlson Explorer I, Explorer II or a JettCE data collector
***I. Get Connected with ActiveSync***
1) Click the link below to Download CGField for the Explorer and save it to your Desktop computer:

2) Get Connected with ActiveSync using a 9pin cable
If you have Windows XP and need to install ActiveSync click the link below:
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
After it downloads click “Run” and then Follow the On-Screen prompts to install it.
For Windows Vista computers without Windows Mobile Device Center click the link below:

3) When the program gets to the “Get Connected” screen, plug in the 9pin Null Modem Cable
from the Desktop Computer into the Data Collector.
4) On the Data Collector - Tap File & Exit to make sure you exit out of Programs you have currently running
5) On the Desktop computer - Click Next to search for the data collector, then immediately Tap
the “PC-Link” icon on the Data Collector TWICE
6) Once the ActiveSync connects up tell it NO you do not want a partnership then It should have
a Green circle and say Connected on the Desktop computer.
***II. Install CG Field***
1) Once your are connected with ActiveSync you can double-click the file you downloaded in Step #1 and follow the
prompts to install CGField onto your Data Collector
2) After the installation is finished you can unplug the 9pin cable
***III. Run PocketDos to set it up
1) On the Data Collector - Double-tap the CGField icon to run PocketDos
{If you don't see the icon you can double-tap "My Computer" / SystemCF / PocketDos then double-tap "PocketDos"}
2) PocketDos will load and run. PocketDos must be configured. Using your stylus, select the miniature
Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen then Tap SETTINGS / tap DISPLAY
a. On the ADVANCED tab move the Bits per pixel slider all the way LEFT
b. On the PERFORMANCE tab move the refresh rate slider all the way RIGHT
c. On the ZOOM tab UNCHECK the "show zoom button" box and CHECK the "set text mode columns and rows" box --- scroll
down to set it for 22 columns and 9 rows
d. Tap OK in the upper right to Save the changes
3) Using your stylus, again select the miniature Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Go to
SETTINGS>COMMUNICATION>COM1.
a. Redirect the COM1 port to: "COM1 Serial Cable on COM1"
b. Place a check in the "save redirection" box
c. Tap OK in the upper right to Save the changes
***IV. Register CG Field and PocketDos***
1) The Next step is to register CGField. Type in CG at the C:> prompt and then hit ENTER on the keyboard to run CGField
then call Carlson Software at (606) 564-5028 and ask for help with
"C&G Field Registration"
2) After Registering CG Field = Exit to Windows by tapping the ESC key twice then Tap on where it says "Tap here to set
Owner Information" and fill in your Name then tap OK in the upper right
3) The last step is to purchase and register PocketDos using the links below:
