Part 1: Back Up Your Serial Number and Equipment Settings
Before upgrading your copy of SurvCE, you may wish to back up important data from your mobile device.
- First, connect your DC to your PC with Windows Mobile Device Center.
- Next, browse the contents of the device to access C:/ProgramFiles/SurvCE/SurvStar
- Then, make a copy of the following files, and save them on your desktop computer. Once you have completed your software update, you may need to replace the files, if they have been removed from the data collector.
- carlson.lic# -This file contains your software registration information.
- caster.txt - This file will only be created, if you are working with VRS GPS networks. It contains your network information.
- SurvCESettings.sqlite3 (or InstConfig Folder, for Pre SurvCE 6) - This file will only be created, if you have saved your instrument configuration settings, in SurvCE.
As an extra precaution, you may wish to back up your field data. This can be done by making a copy of the entire Data folder from within C:\ProgramFiles\SurvCE.
Part 2: Installing SurvCE
If you are already running a copy of SurvCE on the data collector; Tap File and then Tap Exit to make sure that you have closed the program before attempting the Install/Upgrade.
On the Desktop PC:
- Access the SurvCE program download from the SurvCE Download Page
- Set your SurvCE product version. Then, enter your SurvCE serial number and your email address, to access the installation files.
- Browse to the installation file, which is specific to your device. Then, SAVE the file to the desktop of your PC.
- PLUG the USB cable into both your Collector and your Desktop, or Laptop computer, to get connected with Windows Mobile Device Center.
- Double click the SurvCE file downloaded in Part2, Step 1.
- Click Run / Next / Click Accept / Click Install / Click yes to Re-Install.
- Allow the installation file to "unpack its contents on your PC. When the process is complete, you will be prompted to "Please Check your Mobile Device".
- Click OK. Then, Click Finish on the Desktop PC.
On the Data Collector:
- Tap OK if you are asked to "Remove the Previous Version"
- Tap the Install button to install SurvCE to the default location. A message stating, "Carlson Software was successfully installed" will be shown when the process is complete. Tap OK to close the install wizard.
- Verify that you are now on the latest version --- Open SurvCE / tap the File Tab / Tap About SurvCE: Check to see that the version and date on the top match what you downloaded {i.e. Version X.XX} tap Close after you check your version.
