Title: Crash When Clicking On Ribbon or Command Line Window In Survey OEM Products
Created: 2019-09-11Last modified: 2019-09-11

Symptom: Clicking on a Ribbon command, or in the Commandline window, will cause the program to shut down, unexpectedly. Affected Programs: Carlson OEM products (Carlson Takeoff R9 and earlier, as well as Carlson Survey 2017 and earlier) Cause: This issue affects users of Windows 10 who have recently installed Creators Update. Only small fraction of the users seems to be affected, but the condition is completely crippling. In troubleshooting of this issue, it has been established that this only seems to happen to the users who have a touch screen in their computer. To see if you are running "Creators Update", please run "About this PC" and look at the version. The value of 1703 corresponds to "Creators Update". Resolution: This problem is inside AutoCAD engine and is outside of Carlson control. We found that disabling touch screen interface seems to work, which is a minor tradeoff for most users: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-touch-screen-windows-10 -- open Device Manager and search for Human Interface Devices, expand it. -- Right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and from the list of options displayed, select 'Disable'. If disabling of touch screen is not a feasible option for some reason, please consider one of these options: -- roll back "Creators Update" under Recovery in Windows (if this is an option) -- Upgrade to next versions of Carlson Survey or Takeoff - they are coming in summer of 2017 and will be based on newer engine of AutoCAD -- Crossgrade to Carlson office products based on IntelliCAD which are not a subject to this issue
